The Communications and Signal Processing Group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been a nationally recognized centre of expertise throughout the history of telecommunications in Canada. The group is advancing the frontiers of wireless communications, wireless and mobile network architectures, protocols, control and performance evaluation, communication theory, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, security, multimedia signal processing, information theory, data compression, and channel coding. Their success is demonstrated by a significant number of publications and citations in prominent journals, as well as their technical leadership roles, including editorships at top international Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journals and as chairs of national technical conferences.
Their relevance and expertise will continue to be integral as the Internet of Things (IoT), machine intelligence, and automation opportunities continue to emerge. These technologies have at their cores the fundamentals of signal processing and reliable communications, providing opportunities for the group to multiply its visibility, productivity, and impact.
The Communications and Signal Processing Group is multidisciplinary in nature, drawing members from Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, the School of Computing, and the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC). They have recently been joined by an accomplished faculty member who is a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in the area of wireless communications and networking. Members of the group collaborate with researchers from Australia, China, France, Iran, the United States, and Korea. Alumni trainees of the group are established leaders in industry and academia.
