The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science is very pleased to announce the Dean’s Graduate Research Award, for the 2020/2021 academic year (i.e. candidates applying to start May or September 2020 or January 2021, will be eligible to receive the award). The award is intended to enhance the graduate student experience and increase the domestic graduate student enrolment, especially at the PhD level.
Application for the award is open to any potential domestic student, who meets the requirements, whether currently at Queen’s or elsewhere in Canada or abroad. Applicants must meet all the application and admission requirements of School of Graduate Studies of Queen’s University, and receive an offer of admission to an eligible Queen's Engineering graduate program in order to hold the DGRA.
Potential domestic applicants in any of the following categories will be eligible to apply for the DGRA:
Applicants seeking admission to an eligible Queen's Engineering graduate degree program in the upcoming academic year, or summer term after completion of an undergraduate degree;
Applicants who already hold graduate degrees (e.g. MEng, MASc, MSc) and are interested in pursuing a higher Queen's Engineering graduate degree
Students who are currently enrolled in a graduate program (e.g. MEng, MASc, MSc) and who seek to be promoted to the PhD in an eligible Queen's Engineering graduate program without completing the Master’s (PhD)
Please note, in order to be eligible for the award, your application must be received before you have accepted your offer of admission into your new graduate program (i.e., PhD or MASc). Application for the award is open to any potential domestic student, who meets the requirements, whether currently at Queen's or elsewhere in Canada or abroad.
Eligible applicants are encouraged to apply, whether they have established any communications with a potential supervisor or a department at Queen’s or not. Similarly, academic supervisors are encouraged to bring this opportunity to the attention of potential graduate students from Queen’s or from outside the university.
Doctoral students holding a DGRA who receive other scholarships (such as NSERC, OGS, or SGS Fellowships and Scholarships) and wish to retain that scholarship, will receive a top-up from the DGRA to bring the total value to $20K.
In allocating DGRA awards, priority will be given to PhD applicants. Awards at the MASc level would be offered only if sufficient funds are available.
Applicants must start their graduate degree in the spring, fall or winter term that immediately follows their acceptance of the award.
Successful DGRA recipients will receive up to $20,000 per year for doctoral students and up to $15,000 per year for research Master's students. The award will be guaranteed for three years for doctoral students subject to supervisor's approval at the end of first and second year and a minimum cumulative grade of B+. For Master's students, the award will be given for one year. Applicants must start their graduate degree in the spring, fall, or winter term that immediately follows their acceptance of the award.
Five to ten DGRA are expected to be awarded each year.
