In an article regarding his work with the City of Kingston and the Waaban Crossing bridge, Josh Woods — an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering — was featured recently in the Kingston Whig-Standard.
“In this particular project we are using drones to try and supplement human inspection for different types of structures,” Woods explained. “So, the Waaban Crossing is a good example of a long-span bridge structure that requires inspection every couple of years. The challenge with bridge inspections is that a lot of the times the parts that we want to see as structural engineers are under the bridge.”
As well, the reporter Maegen Kulchar spoke with MASc candidate Nick Chodura:
“I worked with Josh on this undergrad thesis and came across this project. It’s been really cool because I’m working with mechanical engineers and electrical engineers. It’s cool to get their perspective on things that you wouldn’t get from a civil engineer,” Chodura said.
