Cao Thang Dinh, an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, was presented the Prize for Excellence in Research for Outstanding Emerging Researchers on June 20, the first day of Queen’s University convocation ceremonies.

The award recognizes and celebrates outstanding early career researchers, defined as those who have earned their most recent highest degree in their last ten years. The university annually awards the $20,000 prize to three emerging researchers across campus. He is joined this year by Chantelle Capiciotti (Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, Chemistry, and Surgery) and Jennifer Tomasone (Kinesiology and Health Sciences).

Dinh has been designated by Web of Science as one of only three Queen’s researchers most-cited globally in 2021, and one of only two in 2022. His program, Refuel @ Queen's, centres on using renewable energy to convert carbon dioxide, air, and water into valuable chemicals. The aim is to provide solutions for a fossil-fuel-free energy and chemical industry, focusing on the design of novel electrocatalytic systems using renewable energy. This research provides a compelling route to mitigate climate change and enable widely accessible renewable energy.
