Biography Research Teaching Publications Awards & Grants

Dr. Paul Hungler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Ingenuity Labs at Queen’s University. Prior to starting his current position, Major (Retired) Hungler served in the Royal Canadian Airforce and was responsible for on-line learning in the Canadian Armed Forces, which included developing and deploying Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) simulation. Dr. Hungler’s research is now focused on developing dynamically adaptive simulation to enhance education and training.

Dr. Hungler’s is focused in two main areas: the development of intelligent, dynamically adaptive simulation, and engineering education.

Dr. Hungler's teaching philosophy is based on experiential learning and the idea that active involvement in the learning process produces a deeper and longer lasting understanding. Experiential learning can come in many different forms ranging from laboratory experiments, active discussions, team design projects or simulated mixed reality experiences. Many of the courses that Dr. Hungler has taught and developed are focused on providing authentic experiential learning experiences.
