Dr. You obtained her PhD from the City University of New York and pursued postdoctoral training at Stanford University. Prior to joining MME, she held cross-appointed positions at the University of Toronto as the Erwin Edward Hart Professor in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering and as a Professor in the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. You received the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation, the Duggan Medal from Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering, and is elected to a Fellow of Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering, a Fellow of American Society of Bone and Mineral Research.
Dr. You’s research focuses on addressing biomechanical inquiries within the musculoskeletal system at the cellular level. Specifically, her team is investigating the anti-resorptive effect of mechanical loading on bone tissue, the vibration effect on bone cell mechanotransduction, the impact of mechanical loading on cancer bone metastasis, bone cell mechanosensitivity in diabetic conditions, and the development of advanced microfluidic systems for studying bone cell mechanotransduction.
