Prof. Carlos Saavedra received the BASc degree from the University of Virginia in 1993 and the PhD degree from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, in 1998. From 1998 to 2000 he was a Senior Engineer at Millitech Corporation, Northampton, Massachusetts, where he was lead designer for 38 GHz point-to-point broadband wireless transceivers. In 2000 he joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Queen's University at Kingston where he currently holds the rank of Full Professor. He served as ECE Graduate Chair from 2007 to 2010. While on Sabbatical leaves, he has held visiting appointments at the University of Navarra, Spain, the Universidade Federal of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and the University of Twente, Holland.
Prof. Saavedra is former Co-Chair of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Discovery Grant Evaluation Group for Electrical and Computer Engineering and he has served on grant review panels at the National Science Foundation (USA) and as external reviewer for the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research. He is a prior recipient of an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Award, he co-authored/supervised the Best Student Paper at the 2009 IEEE SiRF Conference and he is a three-time recipient of the ECE undergraduate teaching award. He is a former Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques, Guest Editor of the IEEE Microwave Magazine, Technical Program Committee Member of the IEEE International Microwave Symposium, the IEEE RFIC Symposium and the IEEE NEWCAS Conference.
We are advancing the state of the art in antennas, circuits and systems to meet society's demand for ever-faster, more energy-efficient and ubiquitous person-to-person and machine-to-machine wireless links. Our laboratory is equipped for design, fabrication and testing of antennas and integrated circuits.
