The Signal Design and Analysis Laboratory (SDAL) is located within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Queen's University at Kingston on the 6th floor of Walter Light Hall. SDAL is directed by Prof. Shahram Yousefi where we conduct research and development with a focus on IP and venture creation for the benefit of humanity and create more harmony for all beings. The current areas include:

Channel coding: network codes, rateless codes
Distributed data storage: digital memory and flash optimization
Autonomous vehicles and control: cooperation algorithms
Algorithms and machine learning for improved efficiency
MIMO design for 5G+ systems

Notes for Applicants

Positions are always available in both M.Sc., Ph.D. and PDF levels on the availability of funds. Preference is given to students with scholarships or external funding support.

Ideal candidates should:

have strong communication and presentation skills
be proficient in English speaking, (technical) writing, and comprehension
be ultra-organized, punctual, motivated, and detail-oriented
have a desire to create IP, publications, and products that advance humanity towards more harmony
be innovative with a disruptive mentality to go from Zero to One
have a very strong mathematical background and a love of knowledge and learning
be data-driven
be familiar with the fundamentals of communication and information theory or algorithms, AI/ML/DL theory and practice
have strong computer programming skills
meet the average/GPA and English language requirement of the school of graduate studies easily (e.g. TOEFL)
